Born Pretty BP-L049 Stamping Plate Review & Nail Art

Recently I treated myself to some Born Pretty stamping plates. As I only started nail stamping in September last year my only stamping plates were cheap knock off ones purchased from Amazon (although my experience using them has been very good!).

I purchased this set here. It comes with 5 plates and it was under a tenner - awesome right?

Today I am going to show my first test using the BP-L049 plate, which is this guy:

Using this I created:

So as far as I can tell the etching on this plate is really good quality. I did also try picking up a few of the other designs and I didn't have any trouble with them. I tried it with both a clear sticky stamper and a firm rubber one. Both picked up fine, but I prefer the clear one so that's what I used on my nails. A quick rub with a cotton ball soaked in acetone was all it needed to clean away the polish after use.

The black polish I used was a stamping polish, so I wasn't too surprised that that one worked. The green is Seventeen Gel Colour in Emerald Tropics i.e. not a polish designed for stamping, but that one worked really well too!

It's not a perfect design (I didn't quite line up my middle finger right), but I'm happy with the quality of the stamp. This wasn't the first plate I tried and by this point I was a little frustrated as the previous two had not worked at all (more on that in another post - I refuse to give up!), so when I saw that the design had picked up I just threw it on my nails!

Overall I am really happy with this plate and will definitely be using it again! Some of the designs look like they are perfect for colouring in and creating my own decals with, and with spring around the corner (although as I am typing this the UK is covered in snow - go figure) it seems like the perfect time for some colourful nails.

I will be posting reviews on the other plates as and when I get round to using them properly and creating some nice nail art to show off, so definitely check back for more!

Barry M Under The Sea Collection Review and Swatches

I'm a little later than I wanted to be in getting this out but I've been dealing with some life things over the past few weeks and I have been going through the process of adopting a cat! I've also felt a little unmotivated and just plain low over the past couple of weeks which hasn't helped. Nevertheless, on to the main point of this post: Barry M's Under The Sea nail paints! You can get these direct from  Barry M  or from your local Superdrug. They're £3.99 each (pretty standard for Barry M polishes), although I snagged mine in a 2 for £7 deal at Superdrug. As is suggested by the name, these shades are inspired by sea creatures, particularly mermaids. The bottle caps all have cute little fish decals which makes them stand out from the standard bottles. The collection has four duochrome shades: Angelfish, Butterflyfish, Jellyfish and Pinktail. Angelfish First up we have Angelfish. This is a gorgeous pale pink with a white shift, and the most sub...

Instagram Nail Art Challenge (Glam Nails): March Edition

Okay so I have been a little bit... not around on this blog for a while (again) thanks to finally adopting my cat! His name is Billy and he's an absolute sweetheart when he's not throwing the cat litter everywhere except the litter tray. As you would expect a lot of my time has been taken up dealing with him, and as such I've just been too tired to do my nails and write about it. Anyway, today I wanted to share with you a nail art challenge on Instagram I recently took part it. It's called the Glam Nails Challenge and is a series of prompts that you follow each month. Its feature account is  @glamnailschallenge , which is run by the lovely Bianka at  @nbnailart  (definitely check her out; her work is awesome!). The challenge uses the hashtag #glamnailschallenge followed by whatever month it is e.g. March was #glamnailschallengemarch. March was the first month I took part (my first ever challenge actually) and I absolutely loved it! Below is the list of prompts for e...

Purple & grey holo double stamp mani nail art

Today I wanted to show off this purple and silver glittery holographic mani! This was my first attempt at double stamping and I'm pretty pleased with how this came out. To create this I used: Barry M nail paint in Fasion Icon Barry M Frosted Cupcakes nail paint in Earl Grey Nailfun Super Lack polish in White Born Pretty Holographic stamping polish in #5 Born Pretty No-Smudge Top Coat Clear stamper Biutee JQ-46 stamping plate As always I started with a basecoat, followed by 3 coats of Fashion Icon on my index and pinkie fingers. The photos don't show it super well but this polish is gorgeous with flecks of holo glitters. I then added two coats of Earl Grey to the rest of my fingers. I chose to use the dandelion looking image on the JQ-46 plate. First I stamped the image in white, and then I went back over it using the Born Pretty polish. I've seen YaGala and Sveta Sanders (and a number of others...) use this technique and honestly I love how it looks. In...
