Barry M Under The Sea Collection Review and Swatches

I'm a little later than I wanted to be in getting this out but I've been dealing with some life things over the past few weeks and I have been going through the process of adopting a cat! I've also felt a little unmotivated and just plain low over the past couple of weeks which hasn't helped.

Nevertheless, on to the main point of this post: Barry M's Under The Sea nail paints! You can get these direct from Barry M or from your local Superdrug. They're £3.99 each (pretty standard for Barry M polishes), although I snagged mine in a 2 for £7 deal at Superdrug.

As is suggested by the name, these shades are inspired by sea creatures, particularly mermaids. The bottle caps all have cute little fish decals which makes them stand out from the standard bottles.

The collection has four duochrome shades: Angelfish, Butterflyfish, Jellyfish and Pinktail.

Angelfish

First up we have Angelfish. This is a gorgeous pale pink with a white shift, and the most subtle of the 4 shades. Honestly I think this would be a perfect colour for a wedding mani. The swatches shown here took 3 coats, and I topped it with Barry M's Wet Set topcoat.

I have to say I really liked the subtlety of this shade. As both of the pink and white shift are quite pale it adds a little surprise when your nails catch the light. It almost gives me Meghan Markle engagement announcement mani vibes, but with a little duochrome twist!

Butterflyfish

I am an absolute sucker for blue/purple shades, so I knew Barry M were on to a winner with this particular shade. Butterflyfish is an absolutely stunning blue with a pinky orange shift and is 100% my favourite of this collection. The swatch shown here is 3 coats topped with Barry M's Wet Set topcoat.

I feel like this this photo captures the shift in this polish quite well. The colour on my thumb is the deeper, darker colour, and you can see the pink showing through in the light on the rest of my nails. I think I am in love.

Jellyfish

The third polish is Jellyfish, a cute lavender shade with a light turquoise shift. This was the first one I swatched and straight away I knew Barry M and hit on a winner with these polishes. Again this is shown with 3 coats topped with the Wet Set topcoat.

I didn't quite manage to capture the shift in this polish so well; it mostly looks white in my photos but I did take them in my conservatory when there was a reasonable amount of sun shining through (a rarity for the UK). I will definitely have to try again at some point, but regardless I still think this shows how pretty this polish is.

Pinktail

Last but not least we have the final polish in this collection, Pinktail. This is a lovely pink that shifts a yellowy gold in the light. My swatch has 3 coats, but this one was actually opaque in 2 (I just like the reassurance as I hate seeing my nail line showing through). Again this was topped with the Wet Set topcoat.

Clearly I was feeling the rings when I wore this colour...
This colour makes me crave cocktails by the poolside. It's so cute and girly but gives off such a relaxed vibe, although maybe that's just me?

Overall I am thoroughly impressed with these polishes, and they were well worth the £14 I spent on them! The formulas are really easy to work with even when painting with my left hand (which I did for 3 of these swatches), and although they are on the sheerer side they're opaque in 2-3 coats. I found they dried relatively quickly too, which is a must for sheer polishes.

I have yet to try these as a topper over other colours, but I have seen swatches from a few other nail bloggers so it is something I am very keen to try out! Be sure to check back as I am 100% positive I will be incorporating these into some nail art designs soon.

As one final thing I will say that if you are in to the duochrome/iridescent trend then these are definitely worth spending your money on. They're pretty cheap and in my opinion absolutely amazing.

Instagram Nail Art Challenge (Glam Nails): March Edition

Okay so I have been a little bit... not around on this blog for a while (again) thanks to finally adopting my cat! His name is Billy and he's an absolute sweetheart when he's not throwing the cat litter everywhere except the litter tray. As you would expect a lot of my time has been taken up dealing with him, and as such I've just been too tired to do my nails and write about it. Anyway, today I wanted to share with you a nail art challenge on Instagram I recently took part it. It's called the Glam Nails Challenge and is a series of prompts that you follow each month. Its feature account is  @glamnailschallenge , which is run by the lovely Bianka at  @nbnailart  (definitely check her out; her work is awesome!). The challenge uses the hashtag #glamnailschallenge followed by whatever month it is e.g. March was #glamnailschallengemarch. March was the first month I took part (my first ever challenge actually) and I absolutely loved it! Below is the list of prompts for e...

Purple & grey holo double stamp mani nail art

Today I wanted to show off this purple and silver glittery holographic mani! This was my first attempt at double stamping and I'm pretty pleased with how this came out. To create this I used: Barry M nail paint in Fasion Icon Barry M Frosted Cupcakes nail paint in Earl Grey Nailfun Super Lack polish in White Born Pretty Holographic stamping polish in #5 Born Pretty No-Smudge Top Coat Clear stamper Biutee JQ-46 stamping plate As always I started with a basecoat, followed by 3 coats of Fashion Icon on my index and pinkie fingers. The photos don't show it super well but this polish is gorgeous with flecks of holo glitters. I then added two coats of Earl Grey to the rest of my fingers. I chose to use the dandelion looking image on the JQ-46 plate. First I stamped the image in white, and then I went back over it using the Born Pretty polish. I've seen YaGala and Sveta Sanders (and a number of others...) use this technique and honestly I love how it looks. In...
