Underwater Gradient Nails with Glitter & Stamping

These nails were something I thought of quite a while ago but only recently got round to doing! They are the more adventurous/time consuming version of the look I did here.

To create this look I used:

  • Nailfun Stamping Lack polish in Black & White
  • Rimmel Salon Pro in Green Dragon
  • Seventeen Gel Colour in Hurricane
  • Seventeen Colour Clash Nail Effects in In The Surf
  • Biutee BC-08 stamping plate
  • Stamper (I used a clear one)
Start off with a basecoat, and then add the white polish as a base. Next we're going to create the gradient effect. For this you can use a skin barrier such as latex or tape, but if you have neither of these you can just clean up around your nails with nail polish remover and a cotton swab or small make up brush.

On a clean make up sponge paint one stripe of dark blue (Hurricane), one stripe of the lighter blue (Green Dragon, although I really wouldn't say this polish is green), and one stripe of white. Then, dab it on your nails with the dark blue at the top and the white by your cuticle. You may need to do this a few times to achieve the desired effect, but just be sure to use thin layers.

I took this pic after I had done my nails which is why the lines are a bit smeared, but you get the gist!
Now it's time for glitter! For this all you do is swipe a layer of In The Surf over the nail, then use a dotting tool to align any big pieces of glitter near the top of your nail so it didn't get too chunky. Finish with a couple of layers of top coat to seal it in and smooth out the surface of the nail.

I then added the stamp of the whale just using the traditional stamping method i.e. I stamped the image straight from the plate. This look is fairly busy so I liked the idea of keeping the stamping simple.

Honestly, I am really happy with how these nails turned out! In the past when I have tried to do gradients they haven't come out very well, but I've kept at it and I do think I'm improving. In any case, when it doubt add glitter!

Looking at the nails now I have actually completed them, I have also realised that these could pass for a winter mani if you don't bother with the nail stamp. This wasn't my intention but a happy accident, so I guess this is kind of a two for one deal.

If you liked this please do check back for more. I have some big ideas and I am thinking about maybe tackling a challenge or two!

Barry M Under The Sea Collection Review and Swatches

I'm a little later than I wanted to be in getting this out but I've been dealing with some life things over the past few weeks and I have been going through the process of adopting a cat! I've also felt a little unmotivated and just plain low over the past couple of weeks which hasn't helped. Nevertheless, on to the main point of this post: Barry M's Under The Sea nail paints! You can get these direct from  Barry M  or from your local Superdrug. They're £3.99 each (pretty standard for Barry M polishes), although I snagged mine in a 2 for £7 deal at Superdrug. As is suggested by the name, these shades are inspired by sea creatures, particularly mermaids. The bottle caps all have cute little fish decals which makes them stand out from the standard bottles. The collection has four duochrome shades: Angelfish, Butterflyfish, Jellyfish and Pinktail. Angelfish First up we have Angelfish. This is a gorgeous pale pink with a white shift, and the most sub...

Instagram Nail Art Challenge (Glam Nails): March Edition

Okay so I have been a little bit... not around on this blog for a while (again) thanks to finally adopting my cat! His name is Billy and he's an absolute sweetheart when he's not throwing the cat litter everywhere except the litter tray. As you would expect a lot of my time has been taken up dealing with him, and as such I've just been too tired to do my nails and write about it. Anyway, today I wanted to share with you a nail art challenge on Instagram I recently took part it. It's called the Glam Nails Challenge and is a series of prompts that you follow each month. Its feature account is  @glamnailschallenge , which is run by the lovely Bianka at  @nbnailart  (definitely check her out; her work is awesome!). The challenge uses the hashtag #glamnailschallenge followed by whatever month it is e.g. March was #glamnailschallengemarch. March was the first month I took part (my first ever challenge actually) and I absolutely loved it! Below is the list of prompts for e...

Purple & grey holo double stamp mani nail art

Today I wanted to show off this purple and silver glittery holographic mani! This was my first attempt at double stamping and I'm pretty pleased with how this came out. To create this I used: Barry M nail paint in Fasion Icon Barry M Frosted Cupcakes nail paint in Earl Grey Nailfun Super Lack polish in White Born Pretty Holographic stamping polish in #5 Born Pretty No-Smudge Top Coat Clear stamper Biutee JQ-46 stamping plate As always I started with a basecoat, followed by 3 coats of Fashion Icon on my index and pinkie fingers. The photos don't show it super well but this polish is gorgeous with flecks of holo glitters. I then added two coats of Earl Grey to the rest of my fingers. I chose to use the dandelion looking image on the JQ-46 plate. First I stamped the image in white, and then I went back over it using the Born Pretty polish. I've seen YaGala and Sveta Sanders (and a number of others...) use this technique and honestly I love how it looks. In...
