I don't know about you guys but I have really been liking the marble nail trend that has been going on for, well, a loooong time now. So I decided to have a stab at it myself and...
I decided to go for a busier marble look than the delicate few line style you see, although I think it ended up somewhat reminiscent of a kitchen counter. Nevertheless, to create this look I used:
- W7 Polish in Glisten
- Barry M Nail Paint in Vintage Violet
- Barry M Nail Paint in Mystic Purple (this one is LE to Boots)
- Nailfun Stamping Lack polish in White
- Clear stamper
As always start with a basecoat; I used Barry M Super Mani. I then applied 2 coats of W7 Glisten - this polish is absolutely gorgeous and has small glitter specks that catch the light and well, give this polish it's name!
Now onto creating the marble look. The technique I used has been all over Instagram recently: using a stamper to "smoosh" the polish. I like to research before I try a technique and I came across a blog post by Nailasaurus, which also included a really helpful video. You can find the blog post here. Before you move on to the stamping remember to add a skin barrier such as latex, glue, or tape to make clean up easier.
I painted a layer of the grey polish onto a plastic sandwich bag, then added drops of the other polishes on either side of the grey. I then used a dotting tool to make lines; I chose to do random curvy lines instead of just keeping them straight.
Quickly pick the design up using a stamper (any will do!) and then smoosh that baby onto your nail. I will say I was not prepared for how... splodgy... this technique is. Luckily you can go over it a few times until you get a look you're happy with. Allow to dry and finish with your top coat of choice.
Unfortunately I didn't get the best photos of this look. My little point and shoot doesn't seem to want to focus on macro (I should probably Google the manual for it), so I'm currently just using the camera on my S7.
Overall I am really happy with how this mani turned out. It's definitely not perfect and I do intend to try this technique again to improve my abilities! Also, with hindsight I probably should have used less polishes; the Mystic Purple polish was overshadowed by the Vintage Violet, which is a real shame as Mystic Purple is an absolutely stunning purple duochrome with a gold shift.
As always if you enjoyed this please check back for more. I plan to branch out and dabble with some swatches and reviews, but I should probably get my hands on some new polishes before I do that.
