I'm not normally one for Valentine's but it does provide a good excuse for cute nail designs! In doing this one I learned that whilst I may be able to draw and paint on a canvas, that doesn't necessarily translate to nails. I still think this turned out okay, but it's not quite the sleek, smooth lines I envisioned.
Also, the pictures for these didn't come out as clear as I thought... and I only realised after I had already taken the mani off. Rookie mistake!
Anyway, to create this look I used:
- Primark PS Polish in Vintage Rose
- Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paint in Freestyle
- Barry M Limited Edition Nail Paint in Opulent
- Barry M Glitter Nail Paint in Ruby Slippers
- Nailfun Stamping Lack in White & Silver
- Dotting tools
- Nail art brush
I started off with Barry M Super Mani as a basecoat. I then painted my nails white. Taking Ruby Slippers, I rubbed the brush against the neck of the bottle to get rid of most of the polish until it was almost dry. I then painted this over each nail to give a slight glitter back ground to the nail.
Taking a largish dotting tool, I alternated between Vintage Rose, Freestyle and Opulent to create the hearts. To do this I just placed two dots close together and then used a smaller dotting tool to drag the polish down to form a heart shape.
Now here is where I got a little cocky and decided to try freehanding a silver outline around the hearts. I've seen YaGala do this plenty of times on Instagram and although I knew I wouldn't be anywhere near as impressive as she is, I thought I'd be okay.
I was not.
Luckily this wasn't too difficult to fix! Once I had finished outlining I simply redotted the hearts; just be careful not to totally go over the silver outline. I then finished with a glossy top coat (Barry M Wet Set), followed by a matte top coat (the Barry M one pictured at the top of the post) as I just wasn't feeling the glossy look.
So that's it for this mani! Again I am sorry for the potato quality photos. This was my first attempt at a Valentine's inspired mani and it has definitely inspired me to try something a little more simple, although of course hearts will still be involved!
